Long Bone

Viewing a cross-section slice from a long bone under the microscope shows the different bone tissues. In the center is the trabecular (truh-bek u-lar) bone also called spongy bone. Around the outside is the compact bone. These two bone types have different physical characteristics. The trabecular bone is a soft tissue while the compact bone is a hard solid tissue.
